Followers Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who breached a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage reveals the individual from Australia pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account includes videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further message on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual interpretation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, earning two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
