People have assembled around the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was observed throughout the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to review the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent representative familiar with the negotiations revealed that an evening round of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The source explained the day's discussions finished without concrete outcomes, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence combat after the first phase of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have still not produce any real breakthrough," but pointed out that mediators are working hard to narrow the differences between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Citizen Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, young Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - shared: "No location appears as home now and until all the hostages come back none of us will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the families of the captives. Israel reports 48 continue in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Activist Atalia Regev stated: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of Israeli citizens desire the hostilities to end in exchange for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the music event, mourners assembled to remember the victims.

From there, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli shelling carried on.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, sector and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the evening falls, the anxiety comes with it," displaced urban resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my smallest child who rests his face on me throughout the night."

"Every second we monitor the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will return to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The medical facility in Gaza City announced it had accepted the corpses of several people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area reported another two victims had been brought there. An individual was lost his life by Israeli forces while attempting to get aid to the southern area, medics reported.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
