American actor Finn, who appeared in iconic programs including Friends, "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has died aged 60.

The skilled improv artist succumbed at his home in Los Angeles recently having undergone cancer treatment since 2022, according to reports.

"Pat Finn saw everyone as a friend - just potential friends he didn't know yet," his family shared in a statement.

They added that he had "embraced life completely - with zest and passion".

A Notable TV Career

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he played the brother of the main character.

He was also seen in a recurring role on Murphy Brown from 1995 to 1997.

He appeared as a party host named Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in the late 90s, portraying a host known to delegate tedious tasks to his guests.

During the 90s and 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on numerous well-known programs, like:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House, M.D.

Finn was perhaps best known for portraying the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, starring in eight seasons between 2011 and 2018.

His cinematic roles encompass "It's Complicated" and "Santa Paws 2".

Off-Screen Life

Beyond his on-screen roles, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and also taught at the Colorado university, where he was a professor.

He was involved with a comedy group of six named Beer Shark Mice.

"He coached, befriended and mentored countless students throughout the years and it's nearly impossible to find anyone anywhere who has an unkind word to say about him," his family wrote.

Offering condolences, peer Richard Kind noted there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Always positive, helping you be funnier and better. A wonderful father and man," he shared on social media.

Finn is remembered by his spouse Donna, his children, and his family.
