The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to develop a TTRPG that explores the series' apocalyptic landscape. The project has been announced, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," states an announcement.
Initial offerings are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, figurines, and several deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the United States into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, transforming the urban landscape into a battlefield. To preserve law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. This is where the agents enter the story.
Development on the game has been in progress for about several years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader audience, specifically in North America. Manufacturing is slated to begin immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping expected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic approach. Players use skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, typically between one and five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, participants choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This die is then compared against a set challenge number.
- Achieving a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness
Fights prioritize placement and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence success chances. This mechanic is designed to reward coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound System
The way injuries is managed introduces a interesting thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an agent is downed, but is not knocked out.
- They can still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
- Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.
An Introductory Adventure
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a ready-to-play starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the search for a missing medical team and work to stop an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
