The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead any other side in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he revealed he isn't eager toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother in July.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
