The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
